World Autism Awareness Day Webinar “Transition to Independent Living in Individuals with Developmental Disabilities” Was HeldOur activity titled "Transition to Independent Living in Individuals with Developmental Disabilities", organized by the Social Work Department at Faculty of Health Sciences, on April 2, 2021 as part of the World Autism Awareness Day. It was actively carried out with the shares and questions of the participants.
April 2 has been declared as "World Autism Awareness Day" by the United Nations in order to raise awareness about autism and to find solutions to problems related to autism. Within the scope of this important day, the event prepared by our Social Work Department. It was moderated by Head of Department Assistant Professor Zeynep Turhan.
Anadolu University, Faculty of Education, Special Education Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Yasemin ERGENEKON made her speech titled “Transition to Independent Living in Individuals with Developmental Disabilities”. In Prof. Dr. Yasemin ERGENEKON's speech, the safety skills of individuals with developmental disabilities include many problems such as recognizing urgent, unexpected, and dangerous situations that threaten their safety at home, school, workplace, and social environments, exhibiting appropriate behaviors against these situations in the appropriate time, protecting themselves and ensuring their personal safety. It focused on the skills of transition to independent living, which includes behavior. The event was completed with the participants' sharing, questions, and answers. We think our meeting was very useful and we thank our speakers and participants.
April 2, World Autism Awareness Day
April 2 was declared "World Autism Awareness Day" by the United Nations in 2008 with the aim of creating solutions to the problems caused by autism by raising awareness about autism all over the world. Every year, during April, which is "Autism Awareness Month", autism problems and solutions are discussed throughout the world, it is aimed to encourage research and spread early diagnosis treatment.
