About the Program

Social work, a discipline and profession, examines the many complex interactions between people and their environments. The aim of social work is to ensure that every person develops his full potential, enriches his life and prevents dysfunction. The social work profession is focused on problem solving and change. Accordingly, social workers are agents of change in society and in the lives of the individuals, families and communities they serve. Social work is an interrelated system of values, theory and practice. The values of social work represent the national and international ethics of the profession.

Social work addresses the barriers, inequalities and injustices that exist in society. It responds to crises and emergencies, as well as to everyday personal or social problems. Social work uses many skills, techniques, and activities consistent with its holistic focus on people and their environments. Social work interventions vary from primarily person-centered psychosocial processes to involvement in social policy, planning and development. These include counseling, clinical social work, group work, social pedagogical work, and family treatment and therapy, as well as efforts to help people obtain services and resources in the community. Interventions also include engaging in social and political activities to influence institutional will, community organization, social policy and economic development. The holistic focus of social work is universal; However, the priorities of social work practice may vary from country to country and from time to time, depending on cultural, historical and socio-economic conditions.

The curriculum includes theoretical and practical courses. Theoretical courses are given using modern methods such as conferences, group discussions, role playing and case studies. In applied courses, students are enabled to gain professional skills and behavior by transferring the theoretical knowledge they have learned into practice. In social personal work, social group work, community work and social service management methods, which are the methods of the social work profession, students are placed in various social service institutions in and outside Ankara and also abroad and practice under the supervision of educational administrators. Applied research courses are held in small groups under the supervision of an educational administrator, and students gain experience in producing scientific knowledge on social problems and social services.
