Significant event from our university in the Week of Respect for the Elderly
The residents of the Bartın 75th Anniversary Nursing Home and members of the Bartın Branch of the Retirement Association of Turkey were hosted at the event held at our university on the occasion of the “18-24 March Respect for the Elderly Week”.Publication Date: 25.03.2022
The event, organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences of our university and the Vocational School of Health Services, attracted great attention. Making the opening speech of the event, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Assoc. Dr. Elif Karahan said that elderly individuals should integrate with the society, be more active and be committed to life.
Karahan said, “Old age, which has a different meaning and importance for each person, is not only a biological process, but also a special period of our lives that is affected by social and cultural values. Along with getting older, individuals themselves and other members of the society should be aware of the change. In this period, individuals can control their emotions better and guide their surroundings with their knowledge and experience. Our elders; They are our only values that transfer the experiences of our past to the present and enable us to carry our national culture and values to the future. Old age requires dignity. It is also a debt of gratitude.”
Meyrem Şahin Ademoğlu, from Bartın 75th Year Nursing Home, gave information about the work done in the nursing home and talked about the importance of psychosocial support for the elderly living in the nursing home.
Within the scope of the event, speeches titled “Aging and Well-Being in Social Services” were given by Aleyna Nur Armutçu and Pınar Aydın, students of the Social Work Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The mini concert given by Hüseyin Tolga Gazi, Mehmetcan Yiğit and Yakup Önal, students of the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences, was greatly appreciated by the participants. From time to time, the audience accompanied the students, who sang popular songs such as “Fikrimin İnce Gülü”, “Nazende Darling” and “Mihriban”.
In the event, which was the scene of colorful images, the residents of the nursing home and the members of the association also took the floor and shared their thoughts. The residents of the nursing home and the members of the association thanked the students who did not forget them on their special days for their sensitivity.
