Speaking at the conference at our university, Prof. Dr. Raika Durusoy touched upon the global effects of climate change and stated that the effects on human health are increasing day by day.
An online conference on "Climate Change and Health" was held by the Faculty of Health Sciences of our university. Academicians, healthcare professionals and students from different cities of Turkey participated in the event organized in line with the theme of the World Health Organization (WHO) 2022 World Health Day "Our Planet, Our Health".
Making the opening speech of the conference, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of our University, Assoc. Dr. Elif Karahan said that climate change and the problems that come with it are one of the most important problems waiting for our planet today.
Then, Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Public Health Lecturer Prof. Dr. Raika Durusoy gave a speech titled “Climate Change and Health”.
prof. Dr. Durusoy started his speech with an assessment made on the factors that cause climate change such as global warming, fossil fuels used for different purposes in daily life, greenhouse gas effect and deforestation.
Touching on the effects of climate change on human health, Durusoy said, “As a result of the climate crisis in our country and in the world; We encounter situations such as decrease in physical activity, increase in respiratory tract and non-communicable diseases, mood changes. Negative effects on human health, drought in the environmental dimension and the decrease in arable land reveal important results.
Durusoy also gave information about the Climate Change and Health Report published by WHO in 2021 and the emergency action plan for all countries, and talked about what can be done to prevent climate change.
At the conference, which ended after mutual questions and answers were received, various solution proposals on climate change and health were also presented.
